Mettingen is a state-recognised resort town and is located on the northern slope of the Teutoburg Forest. Many things in Mettingen are still reminiscent of the traditions of days gone by. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Westphalian travelling merchants lived in Mettingen - the Tüötten or Tödden. They traded in linen far beyond the town's borders and thus shaped the history of an entire region. The old half-timbered houses in Mettingen are still a reminder of the prosperity of the time. Visitors can learn more about the exciting stories from the life of the travelling merchants in the Tüöttenmuseum.

Mettingen has a lot to offer culturally: Five museums are waiting to be discovered. But the scenery is also worthwhile. To the south of Mettingen, visitors will find the Teutoburg Forest and the North German Plain to the north of the municipality - perfect conditions for hiking and cycling.
